Organized endeavors to educate about the working of natural environments and especially on how humans handle their behavior and the ecosystems so that sustainable living is possible is referred to as Environmental education or EE. This is a term that has been increasingly used in today’s age and it implies education taking place within the entire school system right from basic to advanced level. At times, EE is used in a broad way to embrace all kinds of efforts to teach the public as well rest of the audiences that comprise print materials, media campaigns etc.
Other inter-linked subjects comprise outdoor education and work-experience related stuff. This is in fact a wonderful learning process that enhances the knowledge of the people and awareness with respect to the environment and related challenges, improves the requisite skills and know-how to take in hand the various challenges and in the process promotes attitude and motivation to make good decisions and acting responsibly.
The general focus of EE is on raising the sensitivity and awareness of the people with regards to the environment and related challenges, providing all the firsthand knowledge and expertise on environment related matters. Also, EE seeks to assist in maintaining the quality of the environment and other skills to lessen the problems of the environment around, partaking in the exercise of the existing knowledge base and other crisis related to the surrounding environment.
At the primary school level, EE can be introduced in the form of science supplementing curriculum, field trips, community associated projects and outdoor science events participation. The policies of Environmental Education help the schools and other organizations to develop and improve other environment related programs that offer the citizens with the much-needed explanation of the surrounding environment. Besides, green schools by way of promotion of green facilities comprise a major component of environment education.
